Ran Yakumo
This page lists useful spells and skills Ran has in the game, as well as explain her role and how she’s useful in the various speedrun categories. The page tries to limit explanations to Ran herself, if you want to see her synergy with others in specific battles, please refer to the relevant enemy pages.
Quick Summary
Ran is completely optional, requiring Chen to activate several events on floors 4 through 9, so you can beat her as a boss and recruit her. It’s a very long sidequest that can be justified since Ran is an amazing support character, and can sweep through trash as well, but there are other ways to accomplish what she tries to do without recruiting her. Her synergy with Chen and Yukari is irreplaceable, however.

Skills List
- MP/MAG/SPD Boost
- MP Boost is incredibly important if using Super-Fast Hard Arithmetic
- Yakumo Clan
- Buffs self ATK/DEF/MAG/MND/SPD by 8/16 for each of Chen/Yukari also in front
- Vital if using Chen and Yukari in late game, useless otherwise
- Ability to Use Shikigamis
- Buff Chen ATK/DEF/MAG/MND/SPD/ACC/EVA by 66% if Chen is in front when Ran concentrates
- Amazing skill for Chen, since Ran will spend a lot of time concentrating to keep her MP flow going for buffs
- Super-Fast Hard Arithmetic
- Apply Ran’s buffs to the entire back row, at half strength, doubles MP cost
- Very important skill for late in the game when MP is less of a liability
- Expansion of Conciousness
- Increases MP recovery by 1/2
- Amazing skill for Ran since MP regen is very important with her costly skills
- Cooling Down
- Concentrate at full HP multiplies MP recovered by 2/3
- Amazing skill for Ran since MP regen is very important with her costly skills
- Shikigami Defense
- 50% chance to halve incoming damage at the cost of 1 MP
- Incredible skill to keep Ran healthy in the front lines while she’s buffing everyone
