Kraken

This page explains the strategies employed against Kraken on its boss fight. This includes party composition, which spells to use offensively and defensively, and how the battle should flow, which attacks to watch out for, etc. Since strategies vary greatly from route to route, explanations will be separated accordingly.

Quick Summary

Kraken is a mandatory boss fight to recruit Orin. We opt to avoid this fight until we finish exploring the next floor, so that we can come back to it by the challenge level. It is possible to do this fight underlevelled, but it is very inconsistent thanks to the Kraken’s high offensive power. The high SHK chance on half of its moveset is also very annoying.

Strategies

Ame-no-Murakumo (NG)

At any given turn, the Kraken has a 65% chance to use a SHK-inducing spell, and the best you can do is pray that it doesn’t proc on your attacking characters. We get to this fight at exactly the challenge level, so everyone is kind of prepared to take a few hits before dying. Since we have enough passive damage boosts to nuke the Kraken before it can do anything too harmful, this fight is a very simple damage rush - damage it into the 66% Concentrate range and then spam the strongest moves to kill it before Octangle Attack, or at least leave it at the brink of death so someone can finish it off afterwards with some strong move.

The party composition for the fight is Momiji / Kasen / Nitori / Parsee, with Chen at the back line. Momiji acts as a tank and switcher, with appropriate equipment to boost her low FIR and CLD affinity, guaranteeing she can take enough hits for the duration of the battle. The other 3 simple spam their strongest spells, with Kasen/Parsee doing the TRR combo, described below. Nitori can buff herself to deal over 10k damage with Super Scope, and also gives a passive damage bonus to everyone. Important skills for this fight include:

If you stack the damage bonus skills, Kasen gets a 56% boost on Higekiri’s Cursed Arm, and Parsee a 105.92% boost on Jealousy of the Kind, and since the Kraken has 0 TRR resistance, Kasen is guaranteed to TRR every hit, allowing for the easy TRR combo to deal massive damage. Really the only thing that can get in your way in this fight is eternal SHK hell. A basic flowchart to use:
